For the past nine (9) years since its foundation, the NPAF has
presented numerous teaching programs in Peru. These programs were
developed under the NPAF with the guidance and support of FIENS,
FIND, CNS and IC-CNS including participation by the Neurosurgical
Division and the Neurobiology Department of the University of
California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of California at
Irvine (UCI), California USA, the Medical Center of Cedars Sanai,
Los Angeles California, USA.
SOME OF THE MOST RECOGNIZED PROGRAMS ARE:
International “Hands On course” Surgery in the Cervical Column at
the VIII Peruvian congress of Neurosurgery South Regional Chapter of
the Peruvian Society of Neurosurgery, Arequipa, Peru in October
1997.
The development of practical teaching on "Base of the Skull
laboratory" in selected hospitals of Lima, Peru. This program has
flourished under the Direction of Dr. Antonio Bernardo along with
auspices of FIENS and the help of reputable instrumentals companies.
“Hands-On" courses in Neurosurgical techniques were presented by
accomplished American and European neurosurgeons in Lima and
Arequipa, Peru.
Conferences and “hand on” workshops during Spinal and base of the
Skull International Congress of the Sociedad Peruana de
Nerurocirugia, Northen Chapter in Trujillo, Peru, during July 2005
by Dr. Patrick Johnson Director of the Institute of Spinal and
Peripheral Nerves Disorders, Dr. W. Putnam Wolcott., Doctor Keith
Black Director of the Dunnitc Neurological Services, Cedars Sinai
Medical Center, Los Angeles, California, USA, and Doctor Anselmo
Pineda, Associate Professor University of California, Los Angeles,
(UCLA) Division of Neurosurgery.
Scholarships for two Peruvian Neurosurgeons, one in
Neuro-endovascular interventional Neurosurgery and the other in
general Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery at the University of
California Los Angeles UCLA.
The Foundation through FIND has encouraged the
donation of equipment and neurosurgical instruments including three
(3) Zeiss microscopes in selected hospitals in various part of
Peru.
Donations of Instrument and educational materials have been given to
various National Hospital and University in Peru.
Has established a bank of Cerebral Aneurysm clips.
HAS established a Bank of Intracranial Shunts for hydrocephaly
Established under the sponsorship of the NPAF the creation of the
first Chapter in Peru of "Think
First". The Chapter was established in December of 2003,
under the leadership of Dr. Federico Valencia, a Peruvian
Neurosurgeon, practicing in Lima, Peru. Dr. Valencia being the
President of the Sociedad Peruana de Cirugia Vertebral and a
Professor at the National University of Cayetano Heredia traveled to
San Diego, California, USA to take the specific training with the
international section of "Think First". He will be working with the
Sociedad Peruana de Neurocirugia and Asociacion Peruana de Cirugia
Vertebral and the Rotary Club of Barranco.
During
the past decade the NPAF was able to promote and encourage renowned
Neurosurgeons to attend and share their knowledge by participating
in numerous Congress of Neurosurgery in Peru and in various
provinces
