Medicine is not only a science but also an art. The
mission of physicians is to provide the best health care available
to their patients, using their knowledge, strength, compassion and
available resources. With this in mind "How can fellow physicians in
Peru provide the care needed by their patients when they are
practicing in a health care system that is both economically and
physically deprived of instruments, equipment and opportunities to
be trained on the latest developments within their specialized
field?"
Knowing these facts Dr. Anselmo Pineda, created the
Neurosurgical Peruvian American Foundation. The purpose of the
Foundation is to provide educational programs for the advancement of
Neurosurgery in Peru and to cultivate opportunities for Peruvian
neurosurgeons to utilize the latest available techniques for the
benefit of their patients. NPAF was established 1996 under
the California Secretary of States as a non profit Charitable
Foundation with an
IRS
identification of a section 501(c)(3).
The Foundation is sponsored and endorsed, in the
Unites
State by: the Foundation International Education Neurological
Surgery (FIENS), the Foundation for International Development
(FIND), the International Committee of the Congress of Neurological
Surgeon (CNS) and the Neurosurgical Education World Federation Neurosurgical
Society (WFNS).
In Peru, the NPAF is recognized by the Colegio Medico
del Peru, Facultad de Medicina Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia,
Facultad de Medicina Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos,
Academia Peruana de Cirugia, Sociedad Peruana de Neurocirugia, the
Asociacion Peruana de Cirugia Vertebral and the Institute EsSalud.
In addition, the NPAF has established several
agreements with national hospitals and universities in Peru.
Dr. Pineda as Chairman of the Board has dedicated
time and efforts to promote the goals of the Foundation. By
encouraging young Peruvian neurosurgeons to continue their search
for knowledge and persist in their dedication to provide the best
health care available for their patients, the foundation is
contributing to the progress of Neurosurgery in Peru.
